With a core team of over 60 people, Canstruct has a reputation for devising inventive and creative construction methodologies to overcome issues in the field.
Canstruct has a proud history of 40 years in operation. In January 1968 an innovative and driven young engineer – Robin Murphy - created JB Murphy & Co Pty Ltd (the fore runner to Canstruct). After successfully constructing a number of bridges in Papua New Guinea (see photos), Robin incorporated the company Construct Pty Ltd, in Tasmania in 1971 and another company with the same name in Queensland a few years later.
In 1984 our company was purchased by the large international contractor, Christiani & Nielsen of Denmark (C&N). C&N undertook a number of prestigious projects including the Trawler Basin and Lock in Darwin N.T, submarine pipelines in Queensland and N.S.W, numerous Railway Bridges in Queensland, tunnels and shafts and underground construction in Queensland, N.S.W and Victoria. Robin remained with the company (C&N) as its Managing Director and in 1987, Robin repurchased all the shares, the good will and reputation of the company that he helped build.
In 1991 the company changed its name to Canstruct Pty Ltd and has expanded its operations to incorporate a wide range of diverse interests.
