Macquarie Creek

Macquarie Creek / Comet River Bridges

Commencing in May 2005, the Qld Rail Macquarie Creek bridge and Comet River Bridge upgrade (in North Qld and West Qld respectively) proved to be complicated projects with steep sloping banks, difficult site access with a requirement for major work being carried out in between train traffic.

The projects involved bored piles, prestressed concrete spans, steel truss spans and all work was performed on the main rail track alignment under traffic. At Macquarie Creek, nine pre-stressed concrete spans were demolished and replaced during one 10 hour closure. Canstruct secured these projects by offering alternate designs which led to savings for the client of more than $750,000.

Canstruct prides itself of being able to construct new bridges around existing bridges and during bridge closures of between 10 hours and 20 hours dismantle the existing bridge and open the new concrete bridge.
