Canstruct is delighted to announce an exciting new project with the Puuya Foundation in Lockhart River, Far North Queensland.
The Puuya Foundation aims to build partnerships, programs and activities that enable Indigenous Australians to access the same life opportunities as other Australians.
Canstruct has been appointed to construct an Early Years Learning Centre called the Kuunchi Kakana (Families Together) Centre.
The 500 m2 building has been designed specifically for the community and will have a focus on early years education and care; child and maternal health and parenting and family support. Initially delivering early years services to mothers and their young children. The Kuunchi Kakana Centre is all about creating a positive environment for a range of learning and social activities for both children and their parents.
The building will utilise Force 10 building materials which are ideal for this tropical zone. Force 10 building projects are engineered to withstand cyclones, extreme weather, flooding and termites. The Force 10 building materials have already been delivered and work commenced in July 2015.
The target completion date is late November, 2015
Founding Director of Canstruct, Robin Murphy OAM commented:
“We are very happy to be working with the Lockhart River community to develop this. Our aim is to employ as many local tradespeople and trainees as possible to make this truly a local endeavour.”
Local builder Shane Smyth from ESW Builders will manage day to day site activities, including co-ordinating a workforce predominately sourced from the local community.
Founder and CEO of the Puuya Foundation, Denise Hagan said “This is a wonderful example of how when working together great things can be achieved. Having a purpose built centre in Lockhart River is very exciting and a great opportunity for the community. We are very thankful to both the Murphy Family Foundation and our other stakeholders and supporters for believing is us to make this happen. I am looking forward to celebrating the completion!”
