Cyclone Proof Housing / Council Chambers and Offices in remote areas
We have successfully constructed many houses for various Government agencies in remote Aboriginal communities and other inaccessible areas. We have manufactured, transported and erected various buildings and houses in Doomadgee, Lockhart River, various islands in the Torres Strait including Murray Island, Darnley Island and Umagico.
As an example, in July 2007, Canstruct was engaged by the Department of Defence to construct 9 houses in the Aboriginal community of Doomadgee, Qld, an area which has limited and difficult access. The council chambers and public offices had been constructed there earlier by Canstruct.
Due to the ‘wet season’ commencing around Christmas each year it was vital that the project was completed within a 27 week period.
Canstruct modularised the construction of the houses and offices in Brisbane. Over a ten week period it erected all the modules to lock up including services and then transported each house (in two modules) to its final location. While the modules were being erected we had a second team based on site establishing all the sites including footings for each of the houses so that they could be moved from the truck directly to their final position.
