Canstruct staff enjoy some down time on their mothership – the Manta Ray in Daru Harbour

In late December, 2011 Canstruct successfully finished a major civil project for the PNG Sustainable Development Program Ltd, which is a major company owned by the PNG government.

Canstruct’s job was to perform Maritime Works and Geotechnical Investigations for a major port to be built at Daru in Papua New Guinea.  This is now complete, but as in all major endeavours, the very best outcome of all will be for the people of Daru, who currently live in third world conditions.  The PNG Sustainable Development Program is working towards real change for this community through economic development. 

Canstruct was honoured and pleased to do its bit to help.  Canstruct staff have formed real relationships in the Daru community and most significantly directly employed 35 local PNG employees. 

At Christmas, CEO of Canstruct Dan Murphy asked the staff to give the company some feedback on how they felt about working with the company.  The Canstruct Employee Comments Register is extremely satisfying and a real testament to the two-way exchange of goodwill and worthwhile economic endeavor.

Canstruct is owned and managed by two generations of the Murphy family.  The Founding Director Robin Murphy, first started his career in Papua New Guinea as an Civil Engineer back in the early 1960’s.  At that time Robin was responsible for building over 5 large concrete and steel bridges in the country. 

In 2012, Robin and his son Dan Murphy (CEO of Canstruct) are delighted that their latest endeavor in Papua New Guinea has been so successful and hope and plan to do more work in PNG in the future.
