It was announced on the Australia Day Honours List for 2015 that Robin Murphy earned an Order of Australia Medal “for service to the building and construction industry and to the community”. Robin is the Founding Director of Canstruct.
Robin is a Civil Engineer, who has been a Member of the Australian Institution of Engineers since 1962. He was made a Fellow in 2004 and has worked in the construction of public and private infrastructure for almost 50 years in all Australian States and over 25 countries. Robin was born and bred in Toowoomba and attended the University of Queensland. Since then he has worked all over Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Robin’s initial experience after graduating was in Papua New Guinea, where he was responsible for the design and construction of major bridges in the Mount Hagen area. Whilst in PNG, Robin formed an affinity and respect for the company. In 2005, at the age of 66 years, Robin returned to PNG to walk the Kokoda Track.
In 2015, his association with PNG continues as he is the Engineer for the four new Bridges being built by Canstruct in the Northern (Oro) Province of PNG.
Robin has also been an extremely active volunteer in the community sector. He has been a Member of Rotary for over 40 years, and was a Director of the Queensland Ballet for 14 years. In 2012/2013, Robin was instrumental in helping Endeavour Foundation to build a Food Processing plant at Wacol in Brisbane. This plant now employs over 200 people with a disability.
Here at Canstruct, we salute Robin Murphy!
